Openfield believe that robust supply chains are about more than price. Our supply chain team draws on both agricultural and food knowledge to ensure our customers’ needs are met. From data collection at the farm-end of the chain, through to technical input, sustainability and information transfer, we strive to provide a comprehensive suite of services.
We also embrace innovation and technology, apply new techniques and approaches to meet our customers’ needs.
To become a member, farmers commit grain to us ahead of the harvest, so we know every year that we have a consistent supply of grain, oilseeds and pulses. We work with a further 2,000 farmers who do not commit their grain to us during the growing stages, but wish to utilise our commercial trading services. We know each of these farmers individually, and our farm team keeps growers abreast of the market and helps them to manage risk.
As a cooperative, Openfield deliver social and economic benefits to UK farmers. We seek to reduce our environmental impact in key business areas, whilst servicing our clients’ individual sustainability needs through tailored solutions.
In early 2024 we were audited by EcoVadis who placed us in the top 35% of all companies rated in the past year, which earned us a Bronze Medal.
Our top performing sustainability assessment themes were Environment and Labour & Human Rights. The rating validates and demonstrates our continued commitment to sustainability.
Our trading desk has the global insight to ensure that we have the best understanding of the factors that drive markets, which means that we can deliver the best possible UK market information backed up by worldwide intelligence-gathering and analysis.
With a team of traders who have over 300 years’ experience. They manage a book that represents 20% of the UK’s cereal, pulse and oilseed market, so Openfield can offer security and consistency of supply. When the market is right, we are also an active exporter, selling UK produce across the world.
